main square in lomnice.
The purpose of the contest is to propose a new square in the town of Lomnice, a space characterized by the church, the town hall, the views of the old castle and the hills that give the village its name.
The terrain has a slight slope that we use to create benchmarks in the composition, which is developed in visual sequences to lead to the final perspective of the castle. This is decontaminated with a new proposal of smaller trees in appropriate places.
The location of the new elements of the square is based on the principles of compositional axis, which joins various existing features such as the fountain, monumental column, facade of the church and the tower of the town hall.
The objective of the design is to create a large and flexible space for the various activities and events that take place in the village and which are of very different natures (Christmas markets, village festivals, common stalls) and, at the same time, to create a space with capacity for 400 people oriented to another events where required (concerts, magic, theater). This space is created from a grandstand that fulfills two functions: the auditorium function and the monumental emphasis on the castle, serving this staircase and access to the road that connects the historic building with the square and whose meaning was lost over time. Next to this auditorium is designed a play area for children so that both parents and children can enjoy the popular events of the municipality.
In the other direction of the square is placed the shaded area, a wooded island that redistributes the current traffic and generates a covered space for summer with zones of stay, zones of game like petanque, etc.
It proposes a total of 31 parking spaces that are concentrated in the southwest segment of the public space around the edges of the field and just in front of the baroque parochial house in a way that the traffic does not interfere in a negative way in the activity of the square
